Day 1: Arrival/Pick up from Bali hotel

It is simple to travel to Bromo Ijen Tour from Bali. Our staff will pick you up from your hotel in Bali (Denpasar, Sanur, Kuta, or Ubud area) and drive you to the western tip of Bali to reach the Gilimanuk ferry port. You will enjoy about 3-4 hours by private car with air conditioning, so it makes you feel comfortable during your travel to Gilimanuk Port. From Gilimanuk Port, we will take a ferry to cross the Bali Strait in about 1 hour to reach Ketapang ferry port in Banyuwangi. It is in the eastern region of Java Island. On this excursion, after we reach Gilimanuk Port, we will travel across West Bali’s rural landscapes. We will take a lunch break for a while. Lunch will be supplied along the way at a local eatery. After arriving at the Ketapang ferry terminal, take a short city tour of Banyuwangi. Drive up to the hotel in the late afternoon for the night and dinner before the Ijen Crater Tours the next morning. You need to take a rest to continue your tour the next day.

Day 2: Visit the Ijen Crater

We will pick you up at 1:00 a.m. and drive you to the slopes of Mount Ijen, which will take roughly 1.5 hours from the hotel. Upon arriving at Mount Ijen’s parking lot, It will take around 1 to 1.5 hours to ascend the slope of Mount Ijen to reach the pinnacle of Ijen Crater, and along the way, you will be able to enjoy the blue fire and breathtaking natural landscape while breathing fresh air and sitting in the shade. At an altitude of 2883 meters, you may experience the best vista of the sulfate lake, which reflects stunning views of the surrounding cliffs, giving the feeling of doom. Sulfur mining workers descend into the crater and return up a perilous trail on the rim of Ijen Crater, carrying loads weighing up to 80 kilos on their shoulders. You will also appreciate the stunning beauty of the Ijen crater, which is one of God’s magnificent creations. What can we do in the Ijen Crater? Here are some options for Bali Bromo Ijen Tour packages.

* A Road Trip to Ijen Crater

Take an amazing road trip/tour across East Java to see the Kawah Ijen volcano, stopping at all the best attractions like the Mount Bromo sunrise, the Ijen crater, and some of Java’s famous waterfalls like Tumpak Sewu. That was the first time we visited Ijen, and it was an unforgettable experience. The main disadvantage is that a complete road journey costs more money and takes longer. It will take at least three days, and even that will be rushed. The good news is that you can start your Java road trip in Bali (and conclude it there), or you can start in a Java city like Yogyakarta.

* Hike at Midnight

The climb to the Kawah Ijen volcano usually begins with a late-night pickup from your Banyuwangi hotel, a one-hour drive to the park entrance, and a packed (but boring) hike up the mountain in the dark. The main path is entirely made of dirt and is somewhat steep, although it is well-defined and family-friendly. Because of the incline, you’ll surely break a sweat, so I’d grade it as moderate for those who don’t hike often. The steepest section of the path is the first 2/3rds, but as you get closer to the finish line, it levels out and gets flatter. It’s a 3-kilometer (1.8-mile) one-way trip with an elevation gain of roughly 435 meters.

If you wish to skip the blue fire, you don’t have to start at midnight, but if you want the finest views and photos, you should start early and aim to arrive at the Kawah Ijen crater lake before day break. The dawn in Kawah Ijen isn’t spectacular (it’s obscured by a mountain), but the colors on the lake are lovely, and it seems almost mystical in the morning. We started walking at 3 AM which was ideal.

* The Turquoise Lake

The turquoise crater lake is the highlight of Kawah Ijen. It’s quite photogenic, but I think the ideal time to photograph it is either before or shortly after sunrise.

This 700-meter-wide lake is the world’s largest acid lake, and there are several good perspectives surrounding the crater’s rim.

A sunrise point with several twisted trees (GPS here) is the greatest photo opportunity, which you can reach with an extra 30 minutes of walking. Simply turn right after reaching the main vista of the lake and continue in a semi-circle along the crater rim until you discover it.

* Visit Sulfur Min at Ijen Crater

Natural sulfur deposits, which emerge from an active vent inside the crater, are one of the unique features of the Kawah Ijen volcano.

Because workers are constantly exposed to a smoke cloud with absolutely no protection, this is one of the most difficult professions in the world. Some of the males wore shirts over their mouths, while others wore no masks.

After enjoying the natural scenery at Crater of Ijen, descend the slope of Mount Ijen to the vehicle parking area, where our vehicle will be waiting to escort you back to the hotel for breakfast and check out, then drive to the Mount Bromo area for about 6 hours, stopping for lunch at a local restaurant along the way. You will stay at the Lava View Lodge, Bromo Cottages, Cemara Indah, Java Banana Hotel Bromo, or similar when you arrive at Mt. Bromo area, where you will enjoy your stay while overlooking the active volcanoes of Mount Bromo, Batok, and Mount Kursi in the Tengger region.

Day 3: Watch the sunrise from Penanjakan Mountain.

Early in the morning, at 3 AM, the 4WD (JEEP) will take you to Mount Pananjakan on the rim of the Tengger caldera to see the sunrise with its young volcanoes, including Mount Bromo and an active Mount Semeru in the background. The play of light and shadow with sunrise reaches the mountain succession from the top to the bottom and the usual fog of the caldera is breathtaking.

The journey will next proceed to the active Mount Bromo volcano. Then we’ll transport you back to the hotel for breakfast, showers, packing, and loading your bags into the vehicle, and then we’ll drive back to Bali or Surabaya for departure. It is time to take the Bromo Ijen Tour from Bali and create your own experience of visiting Ijen Crater.
