The road trip to Bromo began by car, a journey lasting approximately 2.5 to 3.5 hours. We will leave in the evening of the previous day. After you spend your time at Alun Alun Merdeka and back to the hotel, we are off to Bromo.

By 8 pm, we reached Bromo, fatigue setting in. After dinner, you should go to bed. With an early sunrise hunt planned for the next day, rest was a priority.

At 2 am, you have to get up from your bed. Prepare your jacket and sweater and also scarves. We will go to Mount Penanjakan to witness the sunset. The perfect spot on the caldera’s edge to witness the sunrise.

Besides Penanjakan, there is King Kong Point, another vantage point touted by the guide as ideal for sunrise viewing, which was next on the itinerary. The climb wasn’t overly long but undeniably steep.

Patience proved essential during the wait for sunrise. Clear skies promised a breathtaking spectacle, while cloud cover necessitated a bit more perseverance.

Then, came the reward. Golden yellow, orange, and silver hues streaked across the horizon. Mount Bromo puffed smoke, Mount Batok adorned itself in vibrant colors, and the majestic Mount Semeru stood tall in the distance.

Prepare to be awestruck by Tumpak Sewu, a majestic 120-meter waterfall cascading down the slopes of Mount Semeru in Lumajang, often hailed as Java’s most stunning.

The journey to its base is an adventure in itself. A challenging yet rewarding trek through a steep path takes you past a smaller waterfall and a powerful river for about an hour. While the trek is demanding, the payoff is phenomenal.

Reaching the foot of the main waterfall unveils a breathtaking spectacle – hundreds of individual cascades forming a curtain-like flow, framed by towering cliffs.

Capture the beauty of this cascading masterpiece, but be mindful during your descent. Consider hiring a guide to navigate the safest path, especially after recent lava flows from Mount Semeru have altered the riverbed.

The return trek presents a steeper challenge, so prepare for some exertion. Refuel with a delicious local lunch before embarking on the next leg of your adventure – a scenic 6-hour drive to Ijen, where captivating landscapes, picturesque plantations, and charming villages await.

Upon arrival in Ijen, settle into your accommodation and prepare to be further amazed by the wonders of the Ijen Crater.

The hikers woke up at 1 am to begin their trek. They drove to the Mount Ijen Nature Park parking lot and paid the entrance fee. Their hike commenced, a 3-kilometer journey through darkness that included flat paths, steep inclines, and very steep sections.

A flashlight was essential, and a head torch proved to be an even better option.

Reaching the crater rim, they began their slow descent. The darkness and steep path necessitated a cautious pace. For first-time climbers, help and guidance were strongly recommended, as navigating a steep crater in the pre-dawn hours could be daunting.

The descent took roughly 45 minutes, with a slight queue as others also proceeded cautiously. Some hikers ventured closer to the lake’s edge, but this was highly discouraged due to safety concerns.

The sulfur fumes emanating from the crater could reach scorching temperatures of 600 degrees Celsius, posing a burn risk. Maintaining a safe distance was crucial.

A rare phenomenon, the Blue Fire wasn’t visible in large quantities for these hikers. They only managed to catch a glimpse.  The crater floor near the lake teemed with sulfur, and smoke billowed from the depths.

It was important to be aware of wind direction, as strong gusts could carry dense sulfurous fumes, causing respiratory issues and eye irritation. Wearing a mask while venturing into the crater was recommended.

Once satisfied with their captures, the hikers opted to ascend before stronger winds arrived, potentially bringing thicker fumes with them.

A brisk climb took them back to the crater rim, where they awaited the sunrise over the crater lake. The unfolding panorama was breathtaking. The turquoise lake contrasted beautifully with the vibrant yellow of the sulfur deposits, all bathed in the golden hues of the rising sun. It was a truly awe-inspiring sight.

After Ijen, we go back to your accommodation, take a shower, and breakfast and are ready to continue your trip heading to Bali.
