Bromo Ijen Tour 2023 : 3 D 2 N

October 15, 2023

The Bromo Ijen tour is one of the tours that is in great demand by many tourists, both local Indonesian tourists and foreign tourists.

Mount Bromo and Mount Ijen are two of the most well-known landmarks in Indonesia’s breathtaking natural landscape. These two volcanoes are in East Java and are well-liked hiking and naturalist sites.

If you want to experience the thrilling wonders of Java in Indonesia, make sure to include a visit to the magnificent Bromo and Ijen craters.

Mount Bromo is the most widely recognized volcano in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, despite being neither the highest nor the most symmetrical or beautiful. It takes its name from Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, and is located in the center of East Java.

Bromo is a somma volcano located 2329 meters above sea level, which means it is a caldera with a partially built new cone inside. One of its greatest attractions is the moon-like ashen and rough plains surrounding it, with the most famous view of the area from a nearby mountain.

Day 1 : Surabaya to Bromo

This Bromo Ijen tour itinerary starts at Surabaya. Our guide will pick you up either you use the train from Yogyakarta or other cities in Java, or a direct flight from Jakarta or other cities.

Our driver will drive you to Cemoro Lawang, and you will stay at Lava View Lodge or Cemara Indah Hotel or Bromo Permai 1. The trip to Bromo takes about 3-4 hours from Surabaya.

Cemoro Lawang, the closest area to Bromo, is situated in the picturesque Ngadisari village on the slopes of the magnificent Tengger mountains. To reach this enchanting place, one must follow the scenic route from Surabaya, passing through Pasuruan and Probolinggo.

The road leading to Cemoro Lawang is well-maintained and easily accessible by both car and bus, ensuring a smooth journey.

Immersed in rich cultural heritage, this captivating region is home to the Tengger tribe, devout Hindus who meticulously uphold their ancestral traditions to this very day.

At 2,200 meters above sea level, you may take in Cemoro Lawang’s breathtaking magnificence. The morning air is really chilly and foggy. There is no way you can miss the dawn.

Views of Mount Bromo and Mount Batok covered in mist as well as a fascinating sea of sand can be seen from the top of Cemoro Lawang.

Day 3 : Ijen Crater

Bromo Ijen tour next adventure is hiking to Ijen and witnessing the blue fire. The hike to the summit of Ijen is very difficult. It takes approximately 2 hours to get to the crater lake with steep ascents. Fortunately, there is a marked trail, so you won’t get lost hiking in the dark.

If you want to watch the blue fire, you have to wake up around 01:00 AM, but if you just want to see the sunrise at the Ijen Crater Lake, you can leave at 03:00 AM.

If you want to go down to the crater, you must be careful and use a guide. Began the slow descent toward the crater. The descent was slow because of the darkness and the steepness of the descent. It takes about 30 – 45 minutes depending on how many people want to go down to the crater.

If this is the first time you’re going to climb, it’s best to have someone to help and guide you. Because a steep crater descent in the early morning in the dark is not fun.

The Crater

Blue Fire is a rare occurrence that hardly everyone gets to see. The sulfur is in the bottom of the crater near the lake, and the smoke is billowing. Take note of the wind direction, since it might carry the intense sulfurous vapors towards you, causing shortness of breath and stinging eyes. If you enter the crater, be careful to wear a mask.

If you’ve had enough to take the picture you want, get up before the wind picks up and brings the heavy sulfurous odors with it.

Sunrise at the Crater Lake

Another stunning view is the lake when sunrise comes. The view before us is absolutely stunning. The lake sparkles with a captivating turquoise hue, beautifully juxtaposed against the vibrant yellow tones of the sulfur mine. Enhanced by the warm golden morning sunlight, this spectacle leaves one truly mesmerized.

After exploring the Ijen Crater, we will drop you back at your hotel for your breakfast and check-out, then head straight to your Ubud Bali hotel, and you will arrive there in the afternoon. It takes approximately 6 hours to get to Ubud.

In Ijen, since you will be walking for 2- 3 hours, and the terrain is hilly, you need to be in good health.

Choose clothes that suit the conditions. Since the weather in Bromo and Ijen is cold, choose layered clothing as well as jackets and beanie hats.
  • Check your hiking gear
Before you set off make sure that all your hiking equipment (hiking boots, tracking poles) is still in good shape and ready to use.
  • Hire an experienced guide who knows the terrain
If you want to climb especially if you are a beginner, it is highly recommended that you climb with a guide or guide who understands the track.
  • Choose hiking trails that are friendly, especially if you are a beginner and not used to challenging physical activities like trekking and mountain climbing.
  • Wear shoes that are comfortable and appropriate for your hiking activities
If possible, wear special trekking shoes or sports shoes with grips on the base. These are useful for gripping rocks and soil to prevent slipping.

  • Determine the best time to hike
Timing this hike is also important. Because if you make a mistake, for example, you come in the rainy season, climbing the mountain is not very enjoyable. Moreover, you will not necessarily meet the sunrise because it is blocked by clouds.
  • Bring enough cash
It is better to bring enough cash because you will be in an area where ATMs rarely exist.
  • bring a camera or cell phone with a good quality camera
