November 18, 2019

There is an outstanding tourist attraction in the border between Malang and Lumajang: Tumpak Sewu Waterfall.

This tourist attraction is also called Coban Sewu or Grojogan Sewu. This waterfall majestically rises with a height of 120 meters. The shape of this waterfall is quite unique, different from other waterfalls. The water flow widened like a curtain and slightly circular. It looks like Niagara Waterfall in the border between Canada and the United States of America. This is why this waterfall is called Niagara of East Java. It is also the reason why Tumpak Sewu at Lumajang is included as a tiered waterfall. The water flows in a steep valley and is formed from a river tipped at Mount Semeru. The stunning beauty is amazing and should not be missed.

You are able to reach this Tumpak Sewu at Lumajang both from Malang or Lumajang. If you depart from Malang, you can take a route of Bululawang, Dampit, Tiromoyo, and Pronojiwo. Once you have arrived in Sidomulyo village, you will be able to see the entrance of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall from the road. After parking your vehicle, you need to continue the journey by walking. After walking for about 10 minutes, you can already witness the beauty of the waterfall from above. The water flow is circular, the beauty looks very similar to Niagara Waterfall. If you are not satisfied enough to see the waterfall from above, you can go down the hill to see it from below. This trip requires about 40 minutes walking. But you have to be careful because the path is pretty challenging. You are suggested not to wear slippery footwear.

After going down the hill, you still need to cross a river. Some supporting safety tools are provided by the management, even though they are not really safe. In some spots, you have to hold on ropes, only. But the struggle to reach the waterfall will definitely be a unique experience for you. In addition, you will be accompanied by incredible views around you.

However, do not forget to consider the weather. If the sky is cloudy, it will be better if you do not go down the hill. Because the rain will make the road more slippery and more dangerous.

After struggling to go down the hill and cross the river, you will be welcomed by the magnificent beauty of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. You can also feel how fresh the atmosphere and the water is. You will be able to witness various water flows.

From the clear one to the brown one. All of them are perfectly combined, creating a stunning view. If you love photography, you should visit this waterfall to update your portfolio.
