From Mount Bromo To Ijen Crater
FROM MOUNT BROMO TO IJEN CRATER
Bromo and Ijen are the most famous volcanoes in East Java. Each has specific, terrific attractions & scope of scenery. Mount Bromo has a very special sunrise panorama, You will also enjoy the culture of the Tenggernese people. Mount Ijen has the famous blue flames, acidic lake and back breaking activity of the sulfur miners.
The crossing to Java takes about an hour to Ketapang harbor near Banyuwangi, the eastern tip of Java. On this trip, we will pass through the rural landscapes of west Bali (beach, rice field and west Bali national park). In Ketapang we stop at a local restaurant for lunch, then we continue drive to Mount Bromo area – about a 4 hours drive. Upon arrival at Mount Bromo area (Cemara Lawang village) proceed directly to check in and rest.
At 3 AM early morning the 4WD (JEEP) will bring you to the world’s most famous view point at Mount Pananjakan on the rim of the Tengger caldera it will take about 30 minutes, to see the sunrise panorama of Mount Bromo and an active Mount Semeru in the background. A breathtaking shadow play during sunrise at Bromo. Being knowledgeable of the area we have a few different spots to take this sunrise in.
Afterwards, the adventure will be continue to an active Mount Bromo volcano to see the crater. Climb to Mount Bromo Crater – it will take a short walk to reach the 240 stairs that will bring you to the peak of Mount Bromo. After the viewing panorama from peak of Mount Bromo we head back to our jeep, then we’ll drive back to the hotel for breakfast, shower, packing, loading bags, then we will drive to Banyuwangi. It will take about 5-6 hour, including lunch break on the way. Upon arrival at Banyuwangi check into the hotel and stay overnight. Prepare for Ijen blue flames tour on the midnight.
At 01.00 AM, Our crew will pick you up and drive to the slope of Mount Ijen, this journey takes approximately 1 hour from the hotel passing through plantations and rainforest. This is one of the few remaining areas on Java with giant ferns and plants, & big trees. From the entrance to Ijen it is about 1.5 hours to ascend slope of Mount Ijen to reach the rim of Ijen Crater. Along the path you will enjoy the stunning natural scenery with fresh air & shady. Depending on smoke thickness we can continue going down into the crater, to get closer from the blue flames.
The path going down into the crater takes about 20 minutes. Down inside the crater you will be able see the amazing the blue flames and also you will see the sulfur miners at work. They climb back up the scrabble path out of Ijen Crater with as much as 80 kilograms on their shoulders. Don’t forget to take picture with the blue flames as your background as a proof that you have seen the blue flames in Ijen crater.
Time in the crater is around 30 minutes. Back at the rim, we can rest at an altitude of 2386 meters above sea level and enjoy the amazing panorama of the lake & surrounding peaks. It truly is a vision to behold. You will also enjoy the beautiful scenery around the rim of Ijen as one of God’s amazing creation, as we walk around the rim a bit.
Don’t forget to take pictures in this area also as a proof that you have visited one of the most amazing places on earth. Also remember this – there are no handrails around the rim, so be very careful. The descent is actually refreshing with Merapi & Raung in view on the way down. We’ll stop at the miner’s shack for a short rest & continue on to our vehicle. Head back to the hotel for breakfast – if you did not bring a packed breakfast. A few hotels offer this option.
Around 10.00 AM we drive you back to Bali it will take about 4-5 hour including cross the Bali Strait by ferry
